THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU to the many who contributed, from the smallest to the largest donations, in our crowdfunding campaign for ‘HOUSE IN THE CLOUDS: The Artistic Life of Robert Singleton.’ We were $184 shy of our $12,000 goal one day away from our August 31 deadline. When I opened my Seed&Spark dashboard that morning, we'd hit that number on the button. So, thanks to a fellow documentarian and creative soul who pulled off that neat, sweet gift. Also, a shout-out to Sir Paul, who likewise shoved a whole bunch of chips across the table — more than one thousand — to get us past our 80-percent 'green light' success mark. And to everyone in between, who ponied up their hard-earned shecklels, greenbanks, and clams in support of this project by myself and Bobby Lee Messer or who love and esteem the life and work of Robert Singleton. PS: The campaign officially ended 5:30 p.m., August 31, but if you’re a generous straggler, we have many ongoing costs. Current screenings for ‘HOUSE IN THE CLOUDS’
SUNDAY, SEPT, 17 at 7 p.m.: World Premiere on the main stage of the Clay Center in Charleston WV, presented by the W.Va. International Film Festival. A 6 p.m. reception precedes the screening in the Juliet Art Gallery, where one of Robert’s cloud and horizon line paintings is on view, along with ambient music by avant-garde guitar impressario Spencer Elliot and fingery foods. SATURDAY, OCT. 14 at 7 p.m. and SUNDAY, OCT 15 at 3 p.m.: We’ve added two screenings at Gradient Projects, an artist-run project and event space in Thomas, WV. Tickets are $15 and we’ll announce how to get them shortly. NOTE: These showings feature seating limited to 35, so get then soonest once they go on sale.

In late August, after passing the 80 percent mark in our SEED&SPARK crowdfunding goal to help with our many production and screening costs (you get no pledges unless you hit 80 percent of your goal) I created this short celebratory video. After all, we got “over the rainbow” of our goal. The vocals are from a recording of the tune Albert Frank Perrone and myself worked up a few years ago.

‘HOUSE IN THE CLOUDS’ profiled in new W.Va. feature mag
As a former and lifelong feature writer and editor in West Virginia, I very much appreciate the fact that there is a new online Mountian State feature magazine kid-on-the-block called TheRealWV. I especially like that fact since on August 29, 2023, they published the first profile of “HOUSE IN THE CLOUDS,” written by editor Matthew Young. The article features an interview with me on the project — which, thinking about it, may be the first time I’ve ever been interviewed at length. At age 60-something, it’s about time, yeah? Thank you, new feature mag!
… “It’s not Robert Singleton’s autobiography – it’s chapters from the book of his life,” Imbrogno said, while speaking with RealWV ahead of the film’s Sept. 17 world premiere on the main stage of the Clay Center in Charleston, W.Va. “It’s been quite an amazing and remarkable life …”
… “You know that thing where you hang out with a story for a really long time, and it’s a complicated or ambitious story?” Imbrogno asked. “At some point, if it goes on too long, you get sick of it. Well I never reached that point with this story with Robert …” |
… The film’s world premiere, a presentation of the West Virginia International Film Festival, takes place at Charleston’s Clay Center on Sunday, Sept. 17 beginning at 7 p.m. An interactive question-and-answer session featuring the artist and filmmakers will follow the on-stage screening. The event will be preceded by a 6 p.m. catered reception in the Juliet Art, with music by Spencer Elliott.
“I want to invite questions from the audience,” Imbrogno said. “I will have had my say by then, so people won’t need to hear anymore from me. What I have to say about Robert Singleton will be up on the screen. Any questions or observations that arise in the audience’s mind – I really want them to have that opportunity after they’ve sat there with Robert’s spirit and his life …” | READ ON
